Are you experiencing declutter overwhelm?
When I first started decluttering, I would often lose motivation because life would get ‘too busy.’ Or I tried to do –all the things, all at once–, would lose focus, make little progress, and just up frazzled.
While not many people will probably ever truly enjoy decluttering, here are some tips for when decluttering is overwhelming stopping you in your tracks.
It Must Be Important to You
First off, you need to recognize that it takes work and effort to make a change in life. You are making your decisions on how to spend time and identifying what is important to you.
Prioritize Upfront & Do It
You need to prioritize the act of decluttering, yet remember that this is not a life long time kill. You will have maintenance in the future, but it is much different than what energy you have to spend while decluttering.
Pays Back Benefits with Dividends
You spend your effort, energy, and time up front and this pays back many times over in the long run.
Remember Your Reason for Decluttering
Another way to keep your motivation is to remember what it is that led you on this journey to become decluttered. Keep this thought in the forefront and you’ll be able to keep up some enthusiasm. Write it down and tape it somewhere to remind you.
Take Small Steps Consistently
If you get to a point that you feel the paralysis of not being able to get it all done, make little steps but always keep moving forward. Even consistently performing these simple actions can improve your life over time.
