Do you want to clean up your space and get your life in order? Then this article is just for you. Here are three simple ways to start decluttering your house and removing clutter.
While you may want to get into the reason behind wanting to declutter, which is essential, some find it useful to start decluttering first for motivation and then to feed that motivation with the introspection of what life would be like for you when you’ve removed your extra possessions.
To start to declutter quickly, do the following:
- Ask “Why am I keeping this?” – You may be surprised how often you answer “I don’t know” or “just in case.” The trick is to ask yourself why, as in, why do I think I need this stuff? Your answer may surprise you! If it doesn’t, ask yourself another question: Why am I keeping several of these? meaning more than one of the items that don’t serve a specific purpose like helping a goal like a tool or some other accessory you use every day, for example. If several reasons come out, then that’s OK, but if all answers are “I don’t know,” then it’s time to go!
- Get Rid of it – This may seem pretty straightforward and easy to do, but the biggest reason why people keep unwanted items is that they don’t want to throw anything away. So what you can do is determine if there is a specific shelf in your home you use for certain items you need to keep on hand. Get a box and fill it with all your unwanted items and get rid of them. Decluttering your home could be as simple as taking out one shelf or as drastic as eliminating a room you don’t currently use anymore.
- Store it – For those items you decide to keep for the time being, keep them stowed away, neatly stacked, and organized but in an area that is not your main living area. Experience the feeling of less so that you appreciate it.
Taking it simple with these three simple steps can get you started decluttering and removing your clutter. Like any other improvement plan, start slow and work up to it until you see results, and surely that will lead to motivation.
